How To Wear Your Wedding Ring

Styling your wedding ring is important. It can stand alone or sit alongside your engagement ring. Diamond Exchange provides the tips you need to know.

Choosing Your Matching Wedding Ring

Your wedding ring is a lifetime piece of jewellery, so it should be compatible with your lifestyle. While we will guide you through the different options, it is worth taking some time to think about how you want to wear your wedding ring, as it’s a very personal choice.

Precious Metal

It’s best to choose the same precious metal – whether platinum, yellow gold, white gold or rose gold – so that both the wedding ring and the engagement ring will share the same visual characteristics and ‘wear’ in the same way.

Diamonds

If you choose a diamond set wedding ring, we recommend you allow for the size, shape and setting of the gemstones in your engagement ring, for practical and aesthetic reasons. Also, ideally the diamonds in both rings will be aligned.

Ring Style

Particularly if you decide to wear your engagement and wedding ring on the same finger, it’s ideal to go for a style which is compatible in look and feel. For instance, if you have a contemporary style engagement ring, it’s best to select a contemporary design wedding ring – stick to a theme. You can pair traditional diamond solitaire engagement rings with various styles, as they are quite versatile.

Stacking

Ring stacking is when you wear two or more rings on the same finger. For this to be effective they must be shaped to fit with other rings. Stackable wedding rings are great if you tend to wear a lot of jewellery or enjoy the variety of not always having to wear your engagement and wedding band together.

Vintage

If you have chosen an engagement ring from our Vintage Collection, we recommend you choose a Vintage style wedding ring to match. All of the rings from this Collection feature exquisite detailing such as hand carved scroll-work or millegraining and wearing a wedding ring which shares the same details looks stunning.

On it's Own

Your engagement and wedding rings don’t have to be worn together. You can move your engagement ring to your right hand on your wedding day with your wedding ring your left hand ring finger (or vice versa). If you think you might like to wear your wedding ring on its own sometimes, it's worth keeping this in mind when choosing your wedding ring as you might prefer it to be more substantial, or diamond set so that it can easily stand alone.
